Bluetooth Speaker Sourcing Checklist: What to Verify Before a B2B Order

Portable Bluetooth speakers look similar in listings, and many share the same headline claims. The differences that matter to a distributor or brand, such as how a battery figure was measured or whether a waterproof rating covers the model being shipped, only appear when you ask the right questions. Use the seven checks below before you approve samples or confirm an order.

Short answer: before ordering portable speakers, verify how output and battery claims were measured, what any waterproof rating is based on, how the speaker connects and pairs, whether materials and build stay consistent across batches, which labels and documents your market requires, and what written standard the order will be accepted against.

1. Check How Output Power Is Stated

A wattage figure on a listing does not tell you how loud or clean a speaker sounds. Ask how the figure is defined and measured, and listen to samples at low, medium and maximum volume. Pay attention to distortion near full volume and to how the speaker sounds outdoors, where there are no walls to reflect bass.

2. Ask How Battery Life Was Measured

Playback time depends on volume, the audio content and whether lights or other features are switched on. Request:

  • the battery type and rated capacity;
  • the volume level and content used in the playback test;
  • separate figures where lighting or other features change consumption;
  • the charging time and the charger used for that test.

Speakers with built-in batteries sold in the EU are also subject to battery rules. See our guide to the EU Batteries Regulation.

3. Verify Any Waterproof Claim

Do not take a waterproof rating at face value. For the exact model and version you plan to order, ask the supplier for:

  • the rating claimed;
  • the standard and the edition of the standard it refers to;
  • the test conditions that were applied;
  • the laboratory that ran the test and the date;
  • a copy of the test report that names the same model.

Do not assume a rating covers conditions it does not mention, such as salt water, pool water, hot water or immersion after a drop. If your customers will use the speaker at the beach or by a pool, ask the supplier to confirm those uses in writing.

4. Test Connectivity and Pairing

A higher Bluetooth version does not, by itself, mean a stable connection. Test samples with the phones your customers actually use, at the distances they typically use them, and with obstacles in between. If a model supports stereo pairing between two speakers, check how quickly the pair reconnects after being switched off. Also check any extra inputs, such as a wired audio input or memory card slot, if they are part of your sales story.

5. Inspect Materials, Build and Consistency

The housing, speaker grille, seals, buttons and carry strap determine how a speaker survives daily use. Ask what each part is made of, and keep one approved sample as a reference. When later shipments arrive, compare them against that sample for colour, finish, button feel and sound. Consistency between the approved sample and the bulk order matters more than any single specification.

6. Confirm Labels, Packaging and Market Documents

Each destination market has its own rules for product markings, manuals and import documents. Before you finalize packaging artwork, confirm:

  • which markings must appear on the product and on the box;
  • the languages required for manuals and safety information;
  • the charging port type. In the EU, portable speakers that charge by cable are covered by the common charger rules; see our guide to the EU USB-C charging rules;
  • which documents can be provided for your model and market.

7. Agree Sample Approval and Acceptance Criteria

Many disputes start because buyer and seller never wrote down what an acceptable product looks like. Before you confirm the order, agree in writing:

  • the specification and version of the approved sample;
  • the checks to be made before shipment, and who will make them;
  • the acceptance criteria, including how defects will be classified and handled.

Who carries out any inspection, and how, is a decision for the buyer, and it should be stated in the order documents.

The RZLD Bluetooth Speaker Range

RZLD's Bluetooth speaker collection currently includes a compact waterproof speaker with stereo pairing, a speaker with RGB lighting and a portable outdoor speaker. Each product page lists the model's current features. For an order, the specification and documents for the selected model are confirmed with the manufacturing partner and stated in the quotation. You can apply the checklist above to these models in the same way as to any other.

Questions About Sourcing Bluetooth Speakers

What should I ask for when a speaker is advertised as waterproof?

Ask for the rating, the standard it refers to, the test conditions and a test report that names the same model.

Is the playback time on a listing reliable?

Only if you know how it was measured. Ask for the volume, the content and the features that were switched on during the test.

Can Bluetooth speakers be customized with my brand?

Logo, colour and packaging changes are common OEM requests. What is feasible for a specific model, and the related MOQ and timing, is confirmed in the written quotation.

How many samples should I approve before a bulk order?

That depends on your range and risk. At minimum, keep one approved sample of each model as the reference for later shipments.
